St. Ann’s Warehouse remembers the legendary Marianne Faithfull for her signature voice and indelible presence, the likes of which will never come again. “Blazing Away,” her remarkable 1989 performances at St. Ann’s Church, were produced by Hal Willner and later released and memorialized on film by Island Records. Her definitive portrayal of Anna in Brecht and Weill’s “The Seven Deadly Sins” was permitted “an octave lower” by the Kurt Weill Foundation, acknowledging Marianne’s singular contribution to the legacy of the canon.
These collaborations not only showcased Marianne’s profound artistry and adventurous spirit, but also helped shape the budding identity of our institution. Marianne’s fearless explorations of her craft and her resilience have been a source of inspiration that will continue to inspire her special “placement” (fr) in our hearts.
